Paul knows he will be dying soon and therefore his last words are of great importance. There was great spiritual deterioration in the church between the writing of the first and second epistles, hence the contrast that we see in the content. In the first letter, Paul gives instruction about conduct in the house of God, and depicts the church as the “pillar and foundation of the truth,” (3:15).
